Hiking in Presidio, San Francisco
This time I will take you on a picturesque hike around the most important and beautiful park in San Francisco.
Presidio is a former military base. The core of the park is a Spanish fortress built in 1776 which according to Wikipedia had been passed to Mexico, which in turn passed it to the United States in 1848 and on October 1, 1994, it was transferred to the National Park Service, ending 219 years of military use and beginning its next phase of mixed commercial and public use.
Parade grounds, deep forests and breathtaking views of Golden Gate Bridge it’s all there. Buildings with a red roofs are dating back to civil war. Palace of fine arts with its Rotunda is a true gem and actually the only thing that left of the Panama Pacific International Exposition – a world’s fair held in 1915. As you can see from the amount of pictures, I spent quite a lot of time there trying to find that perfect angle.
After admiring this neoclassical beauty you can walk all the way in an opposite direction from the Golden Gate Bridge through the Crissy Field a former U.S. Army airfield and past yacht club to discover the Wave Organ. There you can rest while enjoying genuine music of the waves. From the Wave Organ my husband and I headed to the Baker beach hoping to take some nice sunset pictures with the stunning views of the Golden Gate Bridge. It was cloudy and gloomy so I didn’t get what I wanted but on a bright side we saw dolphins and I captured the movement of the clouds, so it wasn’t that bad after all.
